Registry rules
Registration rules
These rules govern eligibility, naming, verification and record-keeping for all registrations in the AWBCR stud book.
1. Eligibility
- Registration is limited to Border Collies bred for and capable of livestock work.
- A dog must be traceable to registered or approved working ancestry, or admitted through Registration on Merit.
- Dogs registered solely with conformation or show registries are not eligible on that basis alone.
- The registrar may decline any application where ancestry cannot be reasonably verified.
2. Naming
- Registered names may be up to 50 characters and must be unique within the stud book.
- A kennel prefix may be reserved by a member and used only by that member.
- Names may not imply registry office, title, or affiliation the dog does not hold.
- Once a certificate is issued a registered name may be changed only by correction application.
3. Pedigree and verification
- Sire and dam must exist as records in the stud book before a dog is registered from them.
- Pedigrees are generated from recorded parentage; free-text pedigrees are not accepted as substitutes.
- The registrar may require DNA parentage verification where breeding is disputed or unclear.
- Migrated dogs retain their original registry and number permanently on the record.
4. Litters
- Litters must be recorded by the breeder of record within twelve months of whelping.
- Both parents must be recorded in the stud book at the time of litter approval.
- Each puppy registered from a litter receives its own sequential AWBCR number.
5. Ownership and transfer
- Ownership changes are recorded by transfer application and retain full ownership history.
- Co-ownership is permitted and must list all owners at the time of registration or transfer.
- The registry records ownership as reported and does not adjudicate private disputes.
6. Corrections, suspension and revocation
- Errors of record may be corrected on application with supporting evidence.
- Registrations obtained through misrepresentation may be suspended or revoked.
- All corrections, suspensions and revocations are recorded permanently in the audit history.
7. Fees
- Fees are payable at the time of application and are listed in the published fee schedule.
- Fees are non-refundable once an application has entered review.
