A stud book for the working Border Collie
AWBCR records, verifies and preserves the pedigrees of Border Collies bred and kept for livestock work, wherever in the world they are bred.
Purpose
The registry exists to maintain an accurate, permanent and publicly accessible record of working Border Collie breeding. A pedigree is only worth what its record-keeping is worth; our first obligation is to the integrity of the stud book itself.
Working first
Eligibility rests on working breeding and verified ancestry. AWBCR does not evaluate or register on the basis of conformation, show placings, or appearance. Dogs bred exclusively for the show ring are outside the scope of this registry.
International by design
Working Border Collies move across borders constantly. AWBCR recognizes several established working registries and provides an orderly migration pathway so a dog's existing record is carried forward rather than discarded.
Registration on Merit
Dogs of unverifiable or incomplete pedigree may enter the stud book through Registration on Merit, based on demonstrated working ability assessed by qualified evaluators. ROM protects the stud book from unsupported pedigree claims while keeping genuinely working dogs from being lost to the breed.
Governance and records
Registration decisions are made by the registrar under published rules. Every registration, correction, transfer and status change is recorded in a permanent audit history. Public records show registration and pedigree information; owner contact details and internal correspondence remain private.
